Bank of America's investments in Tesla

According to SEC 13F reports updated June 30, 2026, Bank of America holds 18,117,418 shares of Tesla (TSLA) valued at nearly $7 billion, making them one of Tesla’s largest institutional investors. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, and considered one of the “Big Four” banks, Bank of America provides institutional investment and banking services to over 250 million consumers and small businesses globally, 69 million. Accordingly, they have historically shown to be susceptible to public pressure—in 2018 they announced they would stop providing financing to makers of military-style weapons such as the AR-15 rifle in an effort to combat mass shootings. Perhaps they can be convinced that the people Tesla enriches at its current valuation are just as much of an existential threat to human life as guns.

Nearly half of all Tesla shares are held by institutional investors like Bank of America. Putting pressure on Bank of America and other top institutional investors to drop Tesla will create a severe short term impact on Tesla’s share price and could trigger a cascade of negative signals and selling pressure in the market causing Tesla’s value to crash.
