BYD's critical support for Tesla

BYD (Build Your Dreams) Company Ltd. is a Chinese multinational manufacturing powerhouse and a global leader in electric vehicles (EVs) and battery technology. Initially just a battery manufacturer, BYD now produces a full spectrum of its own vehicles, including passenger cars, buses, trucks, and monorails. Its core strength lies in its control over the entire EV supply chain, by manufacturing its own batteries (both lithium iron phosphate/LFP and newer blade designs), semiconductors, motors, and electronics.

Within the Tesla supply chain, BYD plays an evolving role. Though the company is Tesla's most significant global competitor in EV sales, vying directly for market leadership in EV sales, BYD also acts as a key supplier of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cells to Tesla for vehicles produced at Tesla's Gigafactory Shanghai.
