Samsung's critical support for Tesla
Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC is a major U.S.-based subsidiary of Korean giant Samsung Electronics, operating a large-scale semiconductor fabrication plant (fab) in Austin, Texas.
While the Austin facility historically produced a wide range of chips, including processors for Samsung's own products, its current primary output under a long-term agreement is dedicated to producing advanced silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors for Tesla, now the company’s primary source of silicon carbide (SiC) chips. These are essential components in Tesla's electric vehicle traction inverters, which convert battery power to drive the motors.
