State Street's investments in Tesla
According to SEC 13F reports updated June 30, 2026, State Street Corp holds 117,456,756 shares of Tesla (TSLA) valued at over $44 billion, making them Tesla’s third largest institutional investor. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, State Street is the second-oldest continuously operating U.S. Bank, tracing its roots to Union Bank, chartered in 1792. Having weathered the ups and downs of the market for centuries, today State Street has over $5.7 trillion of assets under their custody. They will presumably continue to soldier on just fine without Tesla stock.
Nearly half of all Tesla shares are held by institutional investors like State Street. Putting pressure on State Street and other top institutional investors to drop Tesla will create a severe short term impact on Tesla’s share price and could trigger a cascade of negative signals and selling pressure in the market causing Tesla’s value to crash.
