The Vanguard Group’s Investments in Tesla
According to SEC 13F reports updated December 31, 2025, Vanguard Group holds 258,925,024 shares of Tesla (TSLA) valued at over $103 billion, making them Tesla’s largest institutional investor. Based in Pennsylvania, Vanguard is best known for its broad and diversified index funds that span a variety of asset classes. Vanguard is critical to Tesla’s market capitalization and stock valuation. However, with over $12 trillion in assets under management, Vanguard hardly needs Tesla to survive.
Nearly half of all Tesla shares are held by institutional investors like Vanguard. Putting pressure on Vanguard and other top institutional investors to drop Tesla will create a severe short term impact on Tesla’s share price and could trigger a cascade of negative signals and selling pressure in the market causing Tesla’s value to crash.
